Frequently Asked Questions

  • Sherman Tan Studio is a soul trader business primarily run by the main photographer, Sherman (me), and Jacqui helps with many things behind the scenes from quality control to managing social media and assisting in photoshoots.

We are not quite a physical photo studio yet. But we’re menifesting. :)

  • I am Chinese born in Malaysia and raised in KL respectively. Now I call Melbourne, Australia home.

I have a Masters Degree in Architecture. But that’s my past life.

  • We are located in Springvale South, South East of Melbourne. We’re relatively close to the Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley and we travel all the time.

Once a year Jacqui and I do an overseas trip. So it is worth asking where I am around the time of your wedding.

  • Most of the time I never physically meet the couples until the day, as long as I have a run-sheet of the day. However, I definitely do encourage that we meet at least online. I would love to see and get to know you before taking your photographs!

  • The travel cost is included if your wedding venue is within 2 hours from 3172. Otherwise, just ask for a travel quote when you send your enquiry.

  • Your date is secured after you pay a deposit.

  • Yes. Minus the deposit, the balance can be split into multiple payments leading up to your big day.

  • YES Absolutely! Let me know what you need help with, if you need recommendations, and if there’s anything I can do to make the process easier for you.

  • Each one of my packages varies in how many images are delivered, but I promise to always include plenty of images of everything I capture.

I don’t like to limit the number of photographs to get you to pay more like some photographers do. These are your memories, I promise to capture them fully and give you more than enough images to remember this time of your life.

For weddings on average you will get 60 photos per hour. For other sessions 40 photos per hour.

  • You will get a few sneak peeks within 48 hours, and a full wedding gallery will be finished typically no later than 4 weeks; during peak season it can be up to 8 weeks. I try to get them back to you as soon as possible while making sure I give time to each and every image that it deserves.

  • No, as I firmly believe that the editing process is an essential part of creating magical images. Without this crucial step, the pictures are only partially complete. I assure you that I will not overlook any photos you desire, and if you ever feel I may have missed delivering a specific photo, please don't hesitate to let me know. I am more than willing to review my collection and send it to you; after all, I'm only human and may make mistakes. Rest assured, I am committed to ensuring you don't miss out on any precious memories!

  • In general I recommend and prefer not to alter your natural appearance, except for addressing temporary features like skin blemishes, bruises, scrapes, or acne—unless, of course, you prefer them to be retained in the photos. If there's anything specific you're self-conscious about, please inform me, and I will be particularly mindful of that aspect while posing you.

For other situations, I happen to be pretty darn good at photoshop and I charge an hourly rate.

  • If you’ve already paid deposit on a date then have to move/cancel it, the deposit is legally non-refundable and a new deposit will have to be made in order to hold your new date.

  • Within reason, we will grab umbrellas and embrace nature. Rain makes everything so much more epic. If it rains heavy, we will seek options under cover because the we don’t want to ruin your hair and makeup, (and my equipment too).

  • Heaven forbid, such a situation will never happen, and it would only occur under circumstances beyond my control, such as acts of nature, illness, death etc. In the unlikely event that this occurs, I will make every effort to secure a replacement photographer with a similar style whom I trust, though I am not legally obligated to do so. If, for any reason, I am unable to attend your wedding, I assure you that your payment will be refunded, as well as a complimentary session.

  • Definitely. As someone with design background I do enjoy designing albums to tell your love story from page to page. After you paying the invoice and select the photos I will design a draft for you and we will go from there. The album will be sent off to be crafted and printed after you give the green light. It takes around 4-6 weeks for the album to arrive.

  • I use multiple professional cameras with multiple lenses so that I can cover both wide and close angles with speed and precision. Every photo taken is saved into multiple memory cards for additional safety against the event of a memory card getting corrupted.

If you are wondering about the brand, I currently shoot with Canon.

  • A second photographer’s role is mainly to help capture the event from a different perspective to the main photographer.

A photographer assistant’s role is to help the main photographer do a better job throughout the day. Making sure the couple looks good, keeping an eye on the timeline, helping you create social media content, a little bit of taking photographs, etc.
