At Sherman Tan Studio, I photograph civil weddings with the same care I bring to larger celebrations.

Helping you feel relaxed, look elegant, and walk away with photographs that feel timeless rather than transactional.

This is for couples who want more than a quick record of the ceremony. It is for couples who want the feeling, the atmosphere, the architecture, the people they love, and the quiet in-between moments preserved properly.

Why Old Treasury Building Works So Well

One of Melbourne’s most elegant civil wedding locations

The Old Treasury Building is one of Melbourne’s most beautiful civil wedding venues for a reason. It combines heritage interiors, central city convenience, and access to nearby portrait locations that make a short wedding feel visually rich.

With Parliament House, Treasury Gardens, Spring Street, heritage stonework, and tree-lined paths all within easy reach, it gives us the chance to create photographs that feel refined, editorial, and still emotionally real - without needing a full-day timeline.

That means your gallery can include:

  • the ceremony itself

  • congratulations and family photographs

  • couple portraits around the Old Treasury Building precinct

  • candid in-between moments that make the day feel alive

Who Is This For

A thoughtful fit for couples who want simplicity without compromising on quality

This collection is designed for couples who:

  • are getting married at the Victorian Marriage Registry in the Old Treasury Building

  • want their wedding to feel intimate, stylish, and easy

  • care about natural photographs but still want direction when needed

  • do not want to feel awkward in front of the camera

  • want family photos, couple portraits, and genuine moments captured beautifully

  • value a calm, personal experience rather than a budget, volume-based service

A shorter wedding does not mean your photographs matter less.

In many ways, they matter more - because the whole experience moves quickly, and the moments are gone before you realise it.

Why Choose Sherman Tan Studio

Calm direction. Genuine moments. Elegant photographs that do not feel forced.

A lot of couples booking a civil wedding worry about the same things:

  • “We are not naturally photogenic.”

  • “We do not know how to pose.”

  • “We want it to feel relaxed, not cheesy.”

  • “We still want it to feel special even though it is smaller.”

That is exactly where I come in.

My approach is a blend of gentle guidance and documentary awareness. I will step in when you need direction, then step back when the real moments are unfolding. The result is a gallery that feels polished, emotional, and true to you.

What couples value most about working with me:

  • calm, confident guidance

  • a relaxed and enjoyable experience

  • help with natural posing

  • timeless editing that feels bright, elegant, and full of life

  • personal care from enquiry to final gallery

Nothing is outsourced. From planning to photographing to editing, everything is personally handled by Sherman Tan Studio.

  • Right after the proposal, I’ll guide you into a relaxed portrait session while emotions are high and real.

  • If you want images quickly for family announcements or social sharing, priority preview is available.

What 2 Hours can Look Like

Here is a realistic example of how this collection can flow:

9:00am Session begins with portraits before Ceremony

10:00am Arrive at Old Treasury Building for registration

10:15am Wedding Ceremony

10:30am Congratulations and group photos

10:45am Portraits at Treasury Precinct

11:00am Photography Concludes or Optional Celebratory Lunch Coverage

This is one of the reasons the location works so well. We can create variety and elegance without needing to travel far.

This is not a rushed budget registry package

If you are simply looking for the cheapest possible photographer to turn up, take a few photos, and leave, I am probably not the right fit.

This collection is for couples who want a more elevated experience.

Even though your wedding is smaller, you still deserve:

  • someone who helps you feel comfortable

  • photographs that look intentional, not generic

  • a gallery that feels cohesive and beautiful

  • a photographer who knows how to work quickly without making the experience feel hurried

Smaller wedding. Same level of care.

Registry Wedding Frequently Asked Questions

  • Not at all. Most couples say this. My job is to guide you in a way that helps you feel natural, comfortable, and still like yourselves.

  • The Old Treasury Building is a popular choice for civil weddings, and I take a limited number of bookings. Once you have your date, it is worth enquiring early.

  • I do not cap your gallery to an artificially low number. You will receive a carefully curated set of edited high-resolution images that reflects the story of your day properly.

  • Yes. That is one of the best parts of getting married here. The Old Treasury Building sits right next to excellent portrait locations, which means we can create a beautiful gallery without losing time in transit.

  • We plan a covered backup, shift timing, or reschedule if needed. The goal is to protect the surprise and the experience.

  • Absolutely. I recommend building these in straight after the ceremony while everyone is together.

  • Depending on the season, it takes 2-6 weeks to receive your final photos. I make sure each image receives the time and attention it deserves to be perfected. If you need it sooner, I offer a priority delivery service.

  • In general I recommend and prefer not to alter your natural appearance, except for addressing temporary features like skin blemishes, bruises, scrapes, or acne—unless, of course, you prefer them to be retained in the photos. If there's anything specific you're self-conscious about, please inform me, and I will be particularly mindful of that aspect while posing you.

For other situations, I happen to be pretty good at photoshop and I charge an hourly rate.

  • No. The final photographs are delivered fully edited in my signature style, which is an essential part of the finished work.

  • In the unlikely event that I am unable to photograph your proposal, I would notify you as early as possible and help arrange a trusted replacement photographer or a full refund, depending on timing and your preference.

  • Definitely. Sometines it is a more pleasant experience doing that. Get in touch and I’ll work out a timeline for you for a pleasant and memorable experience.
